Scope of Work Done at the Women's Center
Academic and Professional Development: Programs such as Women Mentoring Women, the JPL Undergraduate Mentoring Program, Graduate Women’s Weekly Discussion Group, Option-Based Women’s Dinners, and the Annual Alumnae-Student Networking Tea are designed to provide mentorship, role models, networking opportunities and a professional support system to women students and scholars.
Information, Support and Advocacy: The Women’s Center provides confidential support, advocacy, and crisis intervention services to our community. Our staff assists with a variety of academic, career, and/or personal concerns ranging from sexual/gender harassment to sexual assault to relationship violence. Additionally, we work with the Work-Life Office to provide a private lactation room for new mothers.
Personal Development and Awareness: Programs such as our Safety and Self Defense Series, Women’s History Month Programs, and Women’s Health and Wellness Series address a full-range of women’s issues across the life-cycle. Providing these educational opportunities support personal growth, self-esteem, and wellness on campus.
Institute and Division Service: The Women’s Center participates and often leads efforts to support diversity and gender-equity initiatives on campus. This includes serving on divisional and Institute committees, participating on policy review committees, and supporting outreach, recruitment, and admissions efforts.
